Gem powder for oral solution is an over-the-counter medicine to replace fluid loss in acute diarrhea and fluid loss. 10x10 grams of powder Gem is a glucose and electrolyte mixture to replace fluid loss in adults and children. Gem is used for mild to moderate dehydration in acute diarrhoea, as a replacement for acute or chronic fluid loss and for maintenance of water and electrolyte balance. Acute diarrhea or loose stomach in adults can occur together with nausea and pain, and is often caused by food poisoning. Diarrhea in children is usually caused by viral infections and often goes away after a few days. Always use the specified ratio between powder and water in the package insert. The powder is stirred into boiled, cooled water. If desired, the taste can be adjusted by adding a small amount of concentrated juice. The treatment should last until the diarrhea stops, usually for two to four days. Always contact a doctor in case of diarrhea over a longer period or if in doubt about the dosage. Gem can be used by pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as infants. Read the package insert before use.
