Dulcolax suppositories are a laxative that works after about 20 minutes. Dulcolax suppositories can be used by adults and children over 10 years of age. Should not be used for long periods of time. Dulcolax suppositories contain the active substance bisacodyl, which has a laxative effect. Dulcolax is used for constipation or for preparation before X-ray examinations and operative interventions. Dulcolax makes the intestinal contents softer and that the contents pass through the intestine more quickly. The suppositories take effect after approximately 20 minutes. When you have had a bowel movement, the colon is emptied, so it may take a few days before you feel the need to have a bowel movement again. Dulcolax works in the lower part of the gastrointestinal tract and has no effect on the digestion or absorption of calories or essential (vital) nutrients in the small intestine.
